Nursing Positions

Okay, your precious bundle of joy has arrived. She's hungry..hmm...how do I..um...hold her while nursing?

There are many different ways to feed your baby. You will soon find one that you will favorite and most likely will stick with one or two positions that work for you and your child.

The Cross-cradle hold

This position is fairly easy and great for a beginner. This will be ideal when you have a chair with armrests available, otherwise it may be uncomfortable.

The Cradle hold

This is the conventional cradle hold. This was one of my two favorites and was very easy. All you have to do is hold the baby as if you were to rock them, and feed them at the same time. This position worked wonders for me and was very simple.

The football hold

This hold is tricky at first but once you get the hang of it, it can be a great thing! When my oldest daughter was born this was the only way she would nurse for the first couple of days. I tried with my second daughter and it just wasnt for her.

The Side lying hold

This is my all time favorite way to nurse, and for many sleepy moms it is a neccesity! Having the ability to nurse while lying on your side also allows you time to rest and is usually comfortable for the baby as well. You need to always be careful especially if you are high off the ground. Be aware of the fact that your baby could roll off the bed and always remain cautious.

Everyone will have their own unique way to nurse, but once you get the hang of it you will be pro!
